First Visit / Patient Forms

We are always excited about meeting new patients

Your initial orthodontic consultation will consist of a thorough dental health examination and a discussion of potential treatment options. The examination will determine the need for orthodontic treatment and determine any underlining conditions, if any exist, that we should be aware of. During this examination, we will look at, amongst other things, your facial profile, lips, bite relationship and oral hygiene. Photographs of your teeth will be taken. X-rays may also be taken, if necessary. A full dental health examination will take place at this appointment, which lasts approximately half an hour. Photographs of your teeth will be taken. These photographs will be used by the doctor to analyse the best treatment plan for you. It is important that we address your concerns and we encourage you to ask questions. This appointment will last approximately half an hour. After the appointment, a detailed letter will be sent to you and a full report to your general dentist.

During the initial examination for each patient, we will address the following questions that cover the basics of orthodontic treatment:

  • Is there a condition that orthodontics can address?
  • Is treatment needed now or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption or other factors have occurred?
  • What treatment procedures will be used to correct the problem?
  • Do any permanent teeth need to be removed?
  • How long will treatment take?
  • How much will it cost?
  • What are my payment options?

While we can often answer these general questions about treatment during the initial examination, we will address specific areas after careful analysis of the diagnostic records. We feel it is important to analyze each patient’s specific needs, because in-depth planning leads to superior results and higher patient satisfaction.

We insist that our patients leave the office with a clear understanding of their specific needs, what the treatment will consist of and how long it will take.
